We can describe a quiet spring swap or a clean opener install all day, but seeing the difference is what actually tells you what a Fernbrook job looks like. The photos below walk through real repair and replacement scenarios from Sacramento neighborhoods. Some jobs took 45 minutes. Some took a full morning. Every one left with a written price agreed before the first tool came off the truck.

Torsion Spring Replacement in East Sacramento
Before
AfterThe problem: a single broken torsion spring left a wood two-car door halfway up and too heavy to move by hand. The homeowner had called after trying to lift it and hearing the cable slack rattle against the track. We replaced both springs as a matched set, which keeps the door lifting evenly and prevents the second spring from failing a few weeks later. The result: the door moves with two fingers instead of a fight, and the job was done before lunch.
What changed: two new torsion springs, rebalanced door, lubricated rollers and hinges, adjusted cable tension.
Full Sectional Door Replacement in Natomas
Before
AfterThe problem: a delivery truck backed into the bottom two panels of a 16-foot door and bent the track on one side. The door was 19 years old and replacement panels would have left it looking patched, so we quoted a full replacement and walked through the options: steel gauge, insulation level, window placement. The result: a new insulated steel door that quiets the afternoon sun off the west-facing driveway, and a track system that doesn’t grind on every cycle.
What changed: new 16×7 steel door, R-value insulation upgrade, new track, new weather seal, old door hauled away.
Garage Door Opener Upgrades in Land Park

The problem: a chain-drive opener from the mid-2000s rattled loud enough that the homeowner stopped opening the garage at night. They have a nursery above the garage and a three-year-old whose nap schedule ran on eggshells. We removed the old unit and installed a belt-drive LiftMaster with a DC motor, which cuts the noise enough that you can stand under it and hold a conversation. The result: quiet operation during school-hour naps, plus a new exterior keypad instead of tracking down the spare remote every time.
What changed: new belt-drive opener, wall console, exterior keypad, safety sensor alignment, old unit recycled.
Off-Track Door Repair in Oak Park

The problem: a roller had snapped off its stem and the door dropped, wedging itself at an angle in the opening with one side hanging in the track and the other jammed against the header. The homeowner’s car was stuck inside. We got the door down safely without cutting anything, replaced the roller and the bracket, and inspected the other rollers while we were there. The result: the door rolls smooth, the car got out, and we showed them which rollers to watch for wear before they fail again.
What changed: damaged roller and bracket replaced, door realigned, full track inspection, spring tension check.
Panel and Section Replacement in Elk Grove

The problem: a basketball hoop tipped over and put a gouge through the center panel of a five-year-old door. The rest of the door was in good shape, so we matched the panel from the manufacturer rather than selling a full door replacement. The result: you can’t tell which panel was replaced unless you know to look, and the homeowner saved about half the cost of a new door. We also adjusted the hinges while the panel was out so the door closes flatter against the seal.
What changed: manufacturer-matched panel, new hinges on that section, weather seal reset, door balance check.
Cable and Safety System Repair in Midtown Sacramento

The problem: a frayed lift cable had been warning the homeowner for weeks with a metallic popping sound each time the door moved. By the time we arrived, the cable had shredded and the door was running crooked. We replaced both cables, not just the failed one, because the second was showing the same wear at the drum. While we were there we also cleaned and realigned the photo-eye sensors that had been tripping intermittently. The result: the door tracks straight, doesn’t pop, and the sensors hold steady instead of blinking and reversing for no reason.
What changed: both lift cables replaced, drums checked, sensors cleaned and realigned, door rebalanced.
A note on safety before we continue: torsion springs and lift cables are under high tension and can cause serious injury if they fail during a repair attempt. We don’t recommend opening the spring housing or loosening cable bolts on your own. A trained technician with the right winding bars and a full understanding of the tension load is the safer route, and it’s usually faster and cheaper than fixing a botched attempt.
